Kirsten Anderson
Welcome
I am a visual arts teacher and artist who is passionate about teaching and my craft, committed to meeting the individual needs of each of my students through differentiated and student-centered instruction, attentive to the importance and value of communicating with families of my students, and competent at establishing a positive classroom environment promoting student success. Creating a challenging, stimulating, and energizing curriculum and classroom environment is vital in attaining excellence in teaching. Therefore, I subscribe to the notion that a rich curriculum is only possible when differentiated, student-centered, and relevant to each student’s life, interests, and culture. As Dr. Jacqueline Jordan Irvine and Charles Howard Candler Professor Emeritus at Emory University eloquently state “students approach learning through their own experience” and our goal, in essence, is to become “the cultural translators or cultural bridge builders” in this process. This mutually beneficial relationship allows students and teachers to work in tandem in the development of the curriculum and formation of the best methods to ascertain the information.
As you are viewing my professional website, I have included some examples of my student's artworks from PK4 through Eighth Grade. In addition, I have added links to my philosophy of education, my graduate work which focuses on the integration of STEAM education in the arts, and some of my lesson plans. Thank you, Kirsten |
